Doctor Powell is a skilled psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and an accomplished family nurse practitioner. She is an established and highly talented clinician with over three decades of practice spanning women’s health, neonatal, geriatric, family, and psychiatric medicine. She received her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from University of Alabama at Birmingham, her Master of Science in Nursing from University of South Alabama, and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Mobile.
Doctor Powell practiced in Alabama for several years before accepting an opportunity to serve in the Army’s first Wounded Warrior Clinic at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. There, she was distinguished with Walter Reed’s Outstanding Performance Warrior Transition Brigade recognition for her outstanding service to the United States as a Civilian Nurse Practitioner.
Doctor Powell served as a Clinical Service Manager for UnitedHealth, where she was the recipient of the UnitedHealth’s Ever Caring Award and the Sages of Clinical Service Award. She has collaborated with M Medical Group as a Medical Provider and the Chief Nurse Training Officer.
Doctor Powell has mentored as a nurse preceptor and professor at various colleges and universities, and now teaches in the nursing program. Doctor Powell is a member of the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the Gerontological Advanced Practice Nurses, and the National League for Nursing.
Doctor Figaro is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Critical Care Medicine. A physician with over four decades of medical experience, he started his medical career as an enlisted US Navy Corpsman in the intensive care unit at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. Upon leaving active duty, Dr. Figaro studied biochemistry at Old Dominion University before attending Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Virginia.
Following his Critical Care Medicine training at the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York, Dr. Figaro resumed military service as an Air Force medical officer. He then led the ICU - Special Care Unit on Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland until he left active duty. Doctor Figaro continued serving his country as an active reservist. The 459th Air Refueling Wing described him as a "brilliant clinician and educator" who brought a unique mixture of medical administrative and wartime readiness skills that enhance the Force protection competencies oft he squadron. Doctor Figaro rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel by the time he retired after 22 years of honorable military service.
Since then, Dr. Figaro has continued his medical service as a hospitalist, internist, and critical care physician. In Prince George's County, Maryland, he spearheaded hospital-based physician groups which are now known as "hospitalists." Over the years, he has transitioned into outpatient care while maintaining his privileges at area hospitals. Doctor Figaro is currently licensed in Maryland and the District of Colombia.
